My cup of black jelly soya bean wasn’t sweet enough. Soya milk taste was pretty runny, making it rather tasteless. As for the kaya butter toast, it wasn’t even comparable to Uncle Lim’s toast. Lacked of any kaya and butter taste. The only thing nice was the bread was actually crispy. Though that doesn’t warrant a second chance. The Jawa Mee was bad. It was salty. The good stuff was, there were plenty of crispy crackers and it was served hot. The Vietnamese noodle, as according to TSL, it was sour and very salty. I’ve always thought Vietnamese noodle supposed to be sour and sweet. Hmmm…

Stuff to avoid: today’s items, all of them.

The first nice thing about this place was the free WiFi access provided for the patrons and people around the pizza place, because it doesn’t require a key. Something to keep the patrons entertained while waiting for their pizzas, which usually takes 10-15 minutes to prepare. We were firstly served with a saucer of garlic sauce, which EL though was cheese. He was probably deceived by the colour of the thing. When our bread sticks were served, an additional tomato sauce was served. The bread sticks were pretty good. Crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. They weren’t difficult to cut, unlike bread sicks from Pizza Hut’s and Domino’s. Dipping into the garlic sauce was nice also.

Our pizza, the Fisherman’s Catch was nothing to shout about. I could barely taste any tuna in it. Not that I’m complaining as I am still on my strict diet. Due to the short of time, I didn’t pick out any meat I could find on the surface of the pizza. I guess 2 slices won’t do much harm. The pickled chilli was sourish yet not spicy at all. EL described it as the wanton mee chilli.

Service was moderate because the 3 of us only get 1 piece of serviette. Though the serviette was extra large in size. I hope I could collect it and keep them into my little serviette collection. Until they started printing their branding on it first. The garlic sauce has became the star of the night, because EL can’t stop dipping every single piece of edible material into it and jammed it into his mouth. At first I thought Papa John’s was stingy on the sauce as it was barely enough for the 3 of us. Later I realised that it was EL which had at least 2 pax portion of the sauce. I guess he ought to asked for another serving of the sauce especially just for himself, next time.

AC called for dinner tonight. It was a last minute thing. I was reluctant at first because I had snack from my company’s birthday celebration. But he said he wanted to have fried rice from Canai & Such Cafe. I have always wondered how the ordinary fried rice would be like because their nasi goreng kampung and nasi goreng kambing were very nice. Finally, I succumbed into his temptation and went along with a rather full stomach.

The iced bandung that I ordered was not as sweet as the usual bandung, but it was still a tad too sweet. I’ve go no idea what prompted me to order that. Probably because AC was asking for lime syrup. My ordinary fried rice was rather disappointing as compared to my previous experience here. It was unappetizing when it was served. I was expecting it to be lightly coloured like the nasi goreng kampung. Maybe I should just stick to nasi goreng kampung sans the anchovies. AC’s fried rice with lamb meat was rather wet today. Or should I say it was soggy. Yet the taste was still as good, due to the masala used for making the fried rice.

The initial plan was to go Canai & Such Cafe for fried rice. But then, I thought that since the place opens until late, I can always go for dinner or supper. Then I thought of Carrefour. Later as it got nearer, there’s this place that I’ve been wanting to try but always forget. It’s Daiki Cafe, resides in SS15, sharing the same building as Subang Park Hotel.

The nasi lemak looks good. The sambal was sweet yet it was nice, though I was expecting it to be salted. The rice was not warm though, yet it has the coconut milk fragrance on it. Considered better than most place. Would’ve been better if the rice was steamy and warm and more lemak fragrance. The cendol was acceptable. It wasn’t too sweet. Plenty of coconut milk which made the ice tasted salty. The brown sugar wasn’t genuine gula melaka as it lacked the fragrance which I like. Then I ordered another cup of drink. Seeing that they served beetroot with pineapple, I went ahead with it. Though I opted for beetroot with carrot, as I don’t fancy pineapple. The change cost me extra RM2.00 on top of the original price. Steep!

Later, I ordered the toast with egg on top. My previous half boiled eggs experience was disastrous. This is the time for redemption. The toast was spread with butter and then toasted till crisp, then a half boiled egg was break onto the top of it. The sides of the bread was very crispy though the saltiness from the bread hinder the egg’s full performance. Anyway the egg was so much better than the one I had last night.

A place I’d definitely revisit.

First off, the teh c with gula melaka was quite nice at first, but the tea’s flavour was too diluted and lacked of milk. The gula melaka was significant, too significant in comparison. If only the tea was thicker and the milk as well. TSL’s mee rebus was different from what we usually have. She exclaimed, there were green chilli. To me, the gravy was salted, as opposed of what supposed to be sweet. The noodle has heavy taste of alkaline, which was really bad and yucky. Kuma’s nasi kerabu wasn’t blue as I usually had. Though, there were still some hints of lemon grass in it. I guess only that matters when it comes to nasi kerabu.

My roti john cheese was not that good either, at least it was all bad, like the mee rebus. The bread was hard, unlike those I had in Steven’s Corner, where the bread was soft and nice to chew. I barely has any cheese taste, very lightly taste indeed. RM4.50 for that, it’s pretty costly. I would’ve opted for a burger instead with that kind of price. Then the half boiled omega eggs. First batch was too raw, we had them replace it. Then the second batch seemed ok but looked very watery. After putting in some pepper and soya sauce. It felt like drinking water with pepper and soya sauce. The eggs were pretty tasteless and it was watery like WATER! H2O! Any time the worst half boiled eggs I’ve ever had, except those rotten/not-so-fresh ones. Yuck!

Finally, we had another order on the bean curd tower. It seemed kinda cute to me as I’ve never encountered such a monolith before. When it was served, Kuma exclaimed that it was indeed a tower. I tasted traces of bread, deep fried. I guess the outer layer was covered in bread and soaked in eggs before it was deep fried to crisp. The inside was made of pieces of rectangular bean curd, not a whole chunk of a single piece of bean curd though. The sweet soya sauce given was good to numb myself from eating the bean curd tower, which was vomitous after all the bad stuff we’ve had earlier. If they would’ve given some jalapeno into the soya sauce mix, that would’ve been better. Anyway, we didn’t manage to finish the bean curd tower. Kuma said that stink tofu probably tasted better than that piece of junk.

I guess I won’t be going back there again. Despite the first bad experience, there were varieties of stuff which were really tempting to me though. That could be the price to pay for being curious.

The Nyonya Goreng stall in Kwai Sun has gone. It was after AC told me that he discovered a similar Nyonya Goreng stall in Asia Cafe. I’ve tried it once, which was very similar. I never thought it was ran by the same people until I realised that the one in Kwai Sun has closed down. According to PCL, my big plate of mee rebus has the less amount of noodle than KCKW’s regular size, except my plate was much bigger. There goes 50cents for the bigger plate.

I had to make very sure that the set they offering was of single sausage and not twin sausages, like how I was tricked into ordering the set last time. The sausage tasted quite good but TSL said it was very salty. The cheese on the inside was mostly melted as I slice them up. I guess they overheat the sausage. The mashed potato was so huge that I could only eat half of it. There were abundance of corn kernels while the bread has shrank in size, though it was turned into garlic bread, which I think was a better idea. The drink was not nice though.

DL was so reluctant to go home as he was desperate to shoot something with his new toy. In the end, we ended up in KTZ for a drink. The place was crowded, luckily not the same for the parking. We managed to park nearby and walked for about 1 minute to the shop. Anyway, parking our asses proved to be a challenge instead.

The rice here was exactly the same kind of chicken rice that I first had when I just came to KV. It’s rice soaking with margarine. But I’d prefer non-margarine rice instead, one which cooked with chicken soup/essence. The roasted chicken was abomination. It was worse than Mooi Mooi’s roasted chicken. While the steamed chicken was rather ok. There were plenty of sweet soya sauce at the bottom of the plate and the sesame oil was free of charged. The chicken meat was soaking in it. The intestines were pretty tasteless. MH and DL said, just eat it for the springy feeling. I guess this is what you call a genuine KV chicken rice’s style.

Went to dinner with ALGJ and LGFL. Managed to drag MSF out as well since our destination was nearby to her office. Parking was easy as I was able to spot 2 empty spaces just outside the food court.

I’ve always thought the nicer ABC stall was the one at the corner, but MSF told me that the usual nice one that she usually has was from the stall where I used to have my cendol previously. It was pretty nice, especially the brown sugar’s taste. Though I wished it was less sweet but there is rarely any ABC that is less sweeter than this. The shaved iced was very fine, which melts evenly in the mouth and it wouldn’t lacerate the tongue as well.

I didn’t particularly liked the fried tofu but it wasn’t bad either. The outer layer was very crispy and the content didn’t spill as well. Taste wise was nothing to shout about. On the other hand, cuttlefish with water spinach was pretty amazing. The similar type of food that I have everywhere else has runny sauce, but this one, the sauce was thick and there were generous amount of peanut powder. The spinach didn’t watered down the sauce either. I guess it was properly dried after being poached. Worth coming back for as I don’t find anything similar to this anywhere else.

Despite how nice ALGJ said the mee jawa was, I was glad I didn’t order this the previous time I was here. Not that it sucked, but it wasn’t nice either. There were plenty of bean sprouts, almost as much as the noodle. The gravy was nothing awesome, though the crispy crackers were something to crave for.
