... grass jelly that came with the set.

... the soup contains glass noodle (冬粉).

... frankly speaking, I was in a dilemma to rate this nasi lemak.

At first, we were heading to Bamboo Cafe. Before we reach our destination, there were many newly opened eateries in the area. So we stopped by 1 of them. Ria Cafe was similar to most kopitiam from the outside. I guess the menu was quite the same as well, where you can get your coffee and toasts. PCL had the Penang Fried Kuey Teow set, which I had my eyes on. Hence I went with the nasi lemak set instead. Our sets cost us RM10 each, which came with a drink, a soup, main course and dessert (fruits).

The nasi lemak, the rice was yellowish. Reminds me of Hainanese chicken rice. Not quite lemak as I expect. Somehow, the sambal was quite nice. The anchovies were fried till crispy. Probably 1 of the most crispy one I’ve had. PCL can’t stop picking on them, discretely, yet quite obvious. Though I didn’t finish up all the anchovies, as nasi lemak always remind me of my strict diet. Something which I’ve failed to observe over the time…

It’s my first time trying the vegetarian steamed glutinous rice. It looks unappetizing and the rice was too soft and sticky. The only ingredient in it other than the glutinous rice was the vegetarian BBQ pork. Kuma was complaining about the lacking of chicken meat. The curry laksa was acceptable, but not the best I’ve had. Today’s cham peng was quite nice with nice creamy foam.

Milo Shake

... the first time I had Milo shake here was many years ago, introduced by a friend whom stays in Setapak.

Special Porridge

... the famous special porridge. It was published on newspapers so many years ago.

Nasi Lemak

The porridge was pretty much the same as last time, except this time, the pepper was free. The last time I had it, it wasn’t as spicy. Then this time, where were carrot slice in it too. DL was complaining about porridge having carrot in it. The Milo shake kosong has added sugar in it. I dunno what’s wrong with the guy’s hearing. The nasi lemak was very ordinary. DL was chomping down 1 pack, I was licking my lips because I wanted to eat too, but trying hard not to, because he was having the one with “Jun” brand. The brand which I had once too many. Then I realised this was another brand, hence I… was tempted.

Pickled

Nasi Lemak

Went to Medifoods with ALGJ and TSL. I was still feeling quite full and lazy to think of what to eat. They finally suggested this place. And again, I was tempted with the nasi lemak there. The last time I had the nasi lemak there was not bad, though I don’t have my camera with me, so I can’t blog about it. This time, I brought along my camera.

Unfortunately though, the sambal wasn’t so good this time. Probably because I was still full. The complimentary soup tasted bland and the lacked of dragonfruits kinda put me off, even though I wasn’t a big fan of dragonfruits. The pickled fruits tasted weird, so I’ve only had a little bit of them.

I was there early expecting to have a plate of satisfying nasi lemak with nice fried chicken. Unfortunately, the fried chicken only available from 2pm onward. At least I get to know that the stall opens even during lunch time and even better, there’s fried chicken during lunch, on Saturday.

Wanted to come to this place on Monday evening, but I have already had my dinner when ALGJ told me about the nice nasi lemak. Seeing that I could spot a good opportunity today, right after my company’s training. I went there with KKMS. Ordered the minced pork nasi lemak as recommended by ALGJ to give it a try.

The sambal of the nasi lemak was a little bit sweetened but it was quite nice though. Unfortunately, it just feel a bit odd having minced pork in nasi lemak as it’s a Malay dish. It wasn’t cheap either, costing around RM7.90 each. I guess I’ll go plain on my next visit when I’m nearby and need a quick nasi lemak fix.

I packed this nasi lemak right after I had my lunch. I have to try it out as it was highly recommended by AC, as he quoted, “Even my friend from Penang said it’s nice.” When I was there during lunch time, the stall was not opened or not tended by anyone. After my lunch today, while walking to my car, I had a peep and found a woman tending to the stall. I decided to pack a plain one.

I was expecting it to have only curry as the main condiments. Fortunately, it does come with sambal and it tasted good too! The curry wasn’t runny like most Chinese nasi lemak I had. Though unfortunately, the rice wasn’t exactly lemaky. It felt like the leftover rice from the economy rice stall besides the nasi lemak stall. It would score a solid 7.5 if the rice was genuine nasi lemak. There was only O-N-E anchovy in the sambal as well. Not that I’m complain, since I’m still on my strict diet regimen. Anyway, it’s gonna be a nasi lemak that I’ll come back for more, hopefully she’s working over the weekends.

Boy! Was I full…

I had these yam cakes last Friday as TSL packed them for me. There weren’t exactly tasty but the chilli paste given was really nice. Basically, I wanted only the chilli paste, but I had to grab something. I had the glutinous rice as well, but they don’t go well with the chilli. So, yam cake it is. If only the shop has nasi lemak also.
