I found this shop online while pondering what to have for dinner. It was just nearby where I stay hence I decided to just walk over. It was about 500 metres away from my hostel. Unfortunately, the menu was in Chinese, and only Chinese. I was having hard time identifying the items. Fortunately, my shallow knowledge still manages to identify the fried flat noodle. Fried flat noodle was like a superstar in HK dramas and movies, because it’s a common food for the locals here. Hence I always have the impression that it must be very nice, definitely nicer than my country’s local version of fried flat noodle.

When it was served, the aroma was really good. Despite the lacked of taste (healthier HK lifestyle perhaps?), it was still considered good. Though I preferred the one from DoReMi more, which is far more sweeter and saltier. The aroma was comparable too. The toast was nothing to shout about. As for the Coke with lemon, which was highly recommended by ALGJ, it was seriously no difference from those I get in Malaysia. Big boohoo to ALGJ for bluffing.

Despite the mediocre food, fortunate enough the soup was superb. It’s the best stuff served to me on this very evening. The best part was, it’s FREE! The taste was just right, mildly sweetened too. Seeing that most food seems healthier in HK, I believe the flavours from the soup was genuinely boiled from the meat, instead of the magic of Ajinomoto.

4 thumbs up for the soup. If only I have the 5th thumb.

Went to DoReMi for dinner with AC. This time he finally has the chance to try the fried flat noodle at the siu chao stall.

Coincidently, the fried chestnut and sweet potato little lorry was stopping right in front of DoReMi. I decided to try the sweet potatoes as I usually don’t eat these snacks. Since there’s an extra mouth to help eat them, I went ahead and bought a normal sweet potato and a honey sweet potato.

AC seems to like them as the sweet potato wasn’t dry, as he mentioned. As for me, I haven’t had them for ages. Pretty nice as the skin wasn’t too difficult to peel. Though most of the meat was sticking to the skin. The honey one was easier to peel. But it was no as moisture as the normal one. Though this was a little more sweet than the normal sweet potato. At the same time, I find it too sweet. So I’d rather go with the sweet potato next time.

The first time I had this, it was amazing. The steam was billowing up to my face and it has very good aroma. The fried flat noodle wasn’t too dry as well. Despite being dry fried, it was very moisture and rather oily. But it was nice. Nicer than the too dry fried flat noodle from Taman Paramount. Together with the jalapeno, it reminds me of the fried flat noodle from my hometown, which I missed very much.

This is probably the best fried flat noodle in town. Will keep my options opened for something better if I ever encounter any, while AC said, “just enjoy the best that you’ve found and don’t bother about hunting…”

The cup of ABC was full of essence, most of them was from beetroot. The thick soil taste beetroot. Anyway, it wasn’t that bad at all. Still acceptable. My Mushroom Straganoff was rather surprising as I’ve got no ides what it was. I was expecting probably some rice cooked with mushrooms. Turns out it was served on a lasagna bowl with some flat noodle sunken at the bottom of the bowl. The sauce was quite nice and oyster mushrooms were used as main ingredients.

Unfortunately, there were come tempe in it. There was 1 item on the menu which was the potato tempe. I guess it was potato tempe in my food, which doesn’t taste very much better than its soya bean tempe counterpart.

My meal was so healthy today that I can shout “strict diet” at EL again. 😀

On a side note, the shop wasn’t certified Halal, but its meat supplier was Halal certified.

After our dinner, the zombies weren’t full enough, hence we continued with our plans for the night. Next stop was Onn Kee Restaurant. Unfortunately, they sold out by the time we reached there, so we settled for Restoran Lou Wong, which was opposite Onn Kee Restaurant.

Firstly, I’m not a big fan of steamed chicken. I’m a roasted chicken guy. Aside from the unappetizing look on the chicken (probably due to the lighting as well when the photo was taken), I had to be careful of my strict diet as well. I had about 2 pieces of it and yet I still don’t understand what’s so special behind steamed chicken. Anyway, the sesame oil used was quite nice but just not enough.

The bean sprouts were acceptable but they weren’t the fattest I’ve had though, so it was just so-so. Then the worst would be the flat noodle (沙河粉). The soup was very plain, like salted water, the noodle were soggy. It tasted really yucky. Probably because I wasn’t that hungry, yet I had to finish a bowl by myself. Anyway, the flat noodle I had the day before was much better, maybe because it was filled with Aji.

I don’t understand why the place was so crowded when the food wasn’t even nice. But I head, the locals preferred Onn Kee instead. Perhaps what I saw were tourists, or they fell victim to Lou Wong because Onn Kee sold out. A place to avoid on next encounter. If you’re very hungry, just stop by 7-11 and get an instant cup noodle. It makes your life less miserable.

At first, our plant was to have fried rice at the SS15’s wet market. Due to the heavy traffic over there, I’ve decided to turn into SS14, hoping that there are lesser crowd. But it still took me about 20 minutes to find a parking. We had to walk quite far from where we parked before we reach Restoran Kar Heong.

I had my condiments prepared while waiting for my food to be served. Probably the only place that I could find jalapeño in chicken rice place. The soup was quite nice too. Today’s roasted chicken and pork were only mediocre. The first time I had them, they were pretty good. Anyhow, this is probably 1 of the better place for roasted chicken and pork in town. They serve Ipoh style flat noodles as well and many other varieties of local delicacies.
