... iced lime, Thai style.

... one of Thai's usual delicacy, glutinous rice with mango, soak in coconut milk.

... I was craving for fried prawn crackers ever since AC told me we are gonna have dinner here.

... let's try the original Thai style fried rice, see if it's up to par with our local version.

... AC ordered the Pattaya fried rice.

Rating: 5.5/10

This time around, AC brought me to The Summit for some Thai food. I was having rather high expectation on the Thai-style fried rice cause the last good Thai-style fried rice I ever had was around 8-9 years ago, back in Ming Tien food court in Taman Megah. Unfortunately, this fried rice was mediocre. So I had to had it with the jalapeno, lots of it. Somehow, the soya sauce failed me as well. AC’s Pattaya fried rice was reddish in colour. Much like ketchup fried rice. His egg skin (:P) was quite nice though.

I had the glutinous rice mango as dessert, so wash down the not-so-nice Thai-style fried rice. My lime juice was exceptionally sourish. I had to cringe every time I suck it through my straw. By the time I had the prawn crackers, I was feeling quite full. The chilli sauce was so-so only. I was expecting much better ones.

... found some leftover otak-otak, which is red in colour as opposed to orange-ish coloured otak-otak from Muar.

... nasi goreng paprik.

... my sister's Tom Yam noodle.

Rating: 3.5/10

After our dinner, we got hungry very soon cause there were quite some walking we had in the Cowboy Town. Went all the way to Alor Gajah for nasi lemak, unfortunately we can’t find any. Hence while on the way back to A’Famosa, we stopped by this Malay eatery by the roadside to have a quickie. I had the nasi goreng paprik, because I haven’t had that for so long.

The nasi goreng paprik was quite oily, though it doesn’t taste all bad. But the rice has weird taste in it. My sister said the rice grain wasn’t washed clean enough, hence the weird taste in it. I thought it was due to the sauce used in frying the rice. The otak-otak wasn’t all bad, but it was probably the most spicy otak-otak I’ve ever had. 2 sticks and I was blowing my tongue already. Talks about POWER. The iced tea was acceptable. I was expecting something very watery.

... I'm back for Nancy's cendol again!

... the fragrance from the fried rice was killing me, because I was dead hungry already.

... the fragrance from the cincalok fried egg was good, but the taste was yucky.

... unlike last time, this time the popia has very little fried pork lard in it. Probably Nancy read my complaints on my blog.

... our dessert onde-onde, which came late.

Rating: 6/10

We were nearby Jonker Street and can’t think of anything to eat. So I recommended Nancy’s Kitchen to my sister. This was the first time I tried their fried rice and fried egg. The fried rice was quite nice especially the aroma of it, though a tad too salty. The fried egg was not as good as I thought. I thought the cincalok was served as condiment to be dipped in, but it was fried along with the egg. The taste was yucky and it was quite salty due to the cincalok. This time, the nyonya popiah has improved as it wasn’t stuffed with too much pork lard (I can’t believe I’m saying this). I only had 1 piece of the pork lard in my portion while my sister didn’t get any. The onde-onde were quite nice, the elasticity of the skin was just right. Though there aren’t any solid sugar in it like those I had in KV.

... we occupied 2 tables despite the place was packed with people. But 1 table was too small anyway for the 4 of us.

At first, I’ve got no idea where was this place when my sister told me about it. While on the way, I realised that I’ve came here before, but that was eons ago. Probably 7-8 years back. When we were there, I was thinking we probably can’t get a table cause it was already packed with people. Fortunately, there were 2 tables side by side which could fit the 4 of us, nicely. Though 1 table would do, but I don’t think the table would fit our dishes anyway.

Upon ordering, the lady boss said there are no chickens. They served only “魚、蝦、蟹” (fish, prawn, crab). It sounded funny because “魚蝦蟹” means “et cetera” in Cantonese term. Anyway, we proceed with our order of fried rice as my sister has been praising it. I requested for Tom Yam. What would it be like without Tom Yam when we were in a Thai restaurant, right?

... it was so long ago since I last had a Thai coconut. It was so refreshing and sweet.

... these Chinese crullers similar were little. Probably Thai style crullers. It came with green kaya as condiment, which wasn't too sweet. But the crullers were very oily.

These drink and snack were separately charged. RM4.50 for one coconut was very very costly. The crullers were RM3 per plate. There were only like 11 pieces of them on the place. If given RM3, I think I could have Chinese crullers to my heart’s content.

... condiments for the stuff that we are about to receive.

... there were only 2 choices of vegetables. Kailan and this mixed vegetable.

... this was only plain fried rice, not Thai style fried rice or anything that I was expecting from this place. But there were countless number of prawns in it. Only RM15 for 3 pax portions, very cheap.

... I wasn't too hungry yet, so I wanted something sour to boost my appetite for the dinner.

... this was probably the best tasting grilled squids I've had so far. I was expecting bland tasting grilled squids at first, like I used to have most of the time. But these came as a surprise.

... steamed tilapia. It was somehow prepared in Thai sauce, probably to negates the foul smelling meat of the fish.

Rating: 6/10

Frankly, the nice fried rice was an overstatement. There were a lot of prawns in it for the price of normal fried rice, which was commendable. I guess that’s the reason why most of the tables ordered fried rice, instead of white rice. At only RM5/pax of fried rice, I had at least 5-6 pieces of prawns, average. They were not small either. But in term of the taste department, it tasted like white rice fried in soya sauce. Yup, I could only taste the soya flavour in the rice, nothing else. The egg doesn’t produce any fragrance and the prawns don’t make the rice taste any sweeter either. Anyway, I guess there’s no complain as the portion was big. Mixed vegetables were nothing spectacular either.

The Tom Yam which was prepared in clay pot was acceptable. It was sour and quite thick. Plenty of squids in it and some prawns. Though I prefer a thinner soup base. Grilled squids were my favourite dish of the night. Unlike most grilled squids that I had, this actually tasted salty. And of course, it was best served hot. After it was cold, it no longer taste good anymore. Lastly, the tilapia which was fortunately enough, not very smelly. The meat was soft. Probably because it was prepared in Thai sauce, hence the foul smell was reduced to minimum. Anyway, the sourish and spicy sauce used was very appetizing. I found myself dipping my grilled squids in it and also mixing them into my fried rice.

I’m not sure what I was eating. The fried rice was pretty bland. The meat with sauce was close to tasteless. Fortunately, the fried egg was quite nice, though it wasn’t enough to make up for the shortfall of the rice. The portion was very big. Found that out when I flatten the rice.

AC called for dinner tonight. It was a last minute thing. I was reluctant at first because I had snack from my company’s birthday celebration. But he said he wanted to have fried rice from Canai & Such Cafe. I have always wondered how the ordinary fried rice would be like because their nasi goreng kampung and nasi goreng kambing were very nice. Finally, I succumbed into his temptation and went along with a rather full stomach.

The iced bandung that I ordered was not as sweet as the usual bandung, but it was still a tad too sweet. I’ve go no idea what prompted me to order that. Probably because AC was asking for lime syrup. My ordinary fried rice was rather disappointing as compared to my previous experience here. It was unappetizing when it was served. I was expecting it to be lightly coloured like the nasi goreng kampung. Maybe I should just stick to nasi goreng kampung sans the anchovies. AC’s fried rice with lamb meat was rather wet today. Or should I say it was soggy. Yet the taste was still as good, due to the masala used for making the fried rice.

I don’t usually order yee min but I don’t really have much choices when I’m on strict diet. Firstly, I was served with chopsticks that had cloth lint sticking on it as well as the spoon which was 1/2 way soaking in the soup. The yee min was all soggy by the time they got the utensils replaced. The taste wasn’t exactly appetizing. Fortunately, I have jalapeno with me, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to finish it though I was dead hungry. The fried rice tasted a bit sweetened and mildly spicy. But it doesn’t have any nice fragrance to it at all, probably because it was cold.

My sister’s friend bought us dinner today. She recommended the grilled lamb, which was quite famous around her area there. I’ve heard of such grilled lamb before, but not too sure if it was in Klang. I’ve heard that grilled lamb is nice and I’m a sucker for lamb too. Hence we proceed with the place. While we were travelling there, I tried to look for “grill” keyword on my GPS and found Hing Ket.

Upon reaching the place, I realised there is another grill house right next door. But we ended up with Hing Ket, as it was POI in the GPS and it has an * on the name, which denotes it’s good.

Firstly, the fried rice was humongous in portion. I was surprised and almost fell off my chair just by the size of it. I guess it was made to feed 5 adults as there were 5 of us adults and my niece. The taste was so-so only though and lacked of wok hei (鑊氣). I-wouldn’t-want-another-bowl the kind of fried rice. My jalapeno in soya sauce doesn’t taste good either, so I had hard time swallowing those fried rice.

Then the fried oysters omelette was rather disappointing. The last of its kind that I’ve had was pretty good. The oysters here were overcooked and dried. The omelette part of it was dried and a tad crispy too. I was expecting soft moist omelette with medium rare or raw oyster with explosively innards. I was ended up chewing bubble gum instead.

Next, the grilled squids. I was reluctant to have it as it goes strongly against my strict diet. Unfortunately, I was succumbed to the good looks of it, ended up I had a few pieces too many of it. Despite the looks, it was rather tasteless actually. It’s alright since it’s not seasoned with anything except the reddish sauce. But it also lacked the great fragrance that squids let out when they were grilled or fried. Which was kind of, disappointing for a squid lover whom can’t have too many squids, like me.

When the grilled lamb was served, the lamb smell filled the area. I kinda like how the mild fragrance let out from the meat itself. When I had the first piece, it was totally awesome. Nicely marinated, not too much salty stuff. Despite it was well done (there were no traces of blood in it), the meat wasn’t sinewy at all. Just right and chew able. The previous 2 items no longer falter my impression dining here, all thanks to the great lamb. Definitely a must have.

After a while, the grilled stingray was served. It looked pretty normal, except it was cut in checkered box shape. The top layer of sauce was lightly taste, while it doesn’t overwhelm the original fish meat’s taste. After a few scoops of it, I realised that the fish was grilled to perfection. It was not overcooked nor it is raw. It was just right at the borderline where most of the moisture in the meat was retained, yet not sticky and smelly if it’s too raw.

Finally, the crabs were served. It seemed to me the crab was not prepared prior to sending to the hot grilles. Our host guessed that the crabs were dabbed with oil while it was being grilled. I was expecting grilled crabs similar to Seremban’s grilled crabs. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as tasty as what I expected and it was just plain grilling. Something which you could do with a BBQ grill if you managed to start the fire. Anyway, I managed to wallop a shell with plenty of roe in it. It was juicy, just like how a grilled crab should be. So, no complain there.

All food was pretty good. Somehow, my orgasmic stink beans weren’t that orgasmicstinky. The Sze Chuan soup was nothing like Sze Chuan style at all. TSL even commented that it was like Maggi’s soup (instant noodle seasoning). The rojak was a little different from last time, the peanut sauce was a bit more sweetened. Somehow, I find it nicer though. The sushi was very the vegetarian. Fortunately, we were given a dollop of wasabi to go with it. Not that the wasabi serves any purpose on eating vegetarian sushi, but it does made the sushi tastes better when mixed with the soya sauce. Lastly, the pizza. Let me just put it this way. Leave the pizza to the pizza place.

Now, the big but. Despite this place being vegetarian and organic, not everything served here were acceptable for my strict diet. For example, the peanut sauce and rice crackers from the rojak. Then the crust from the pizza too. Oh well, another day passed by while serving my strict diet. At least I’m still in 1 piece.

This was a difficult choice. I’m not a fan of Vietnamese food due to its rather dry, raw-ish feeling of their food and soak in sweet sour sauce most of the time.

Starting off with my parsley soda. The waitress mixed it before it was being served to me, so I don’t get to snap a nice photo of the presentation where there were layers in the cup. Bad move, bad bad move! Though the drink was pretty nice, slightly minty though.

The noodle was similar to fried yee min, except it doesn’t have the boring taste of yee min after having a few spoons of it. The sauce was nice too. The pork chop was covered in sweet sauce. No hints of lemon grass though. Perhaps Vietnamese’s lemon grass was different. The curry on the curry chicken has nice fragrance to it. My mum said it’s the Indian style curry which was my favourite.

The mixed fruits and meat served on a piece of fried cracker was nice too. Looked like salad. Perhaps Vietnamese style. The fried rice and fried vermicelli got my attention. They were both good. Rather unexpected that it’s coming from a Vietnamese menu. Finally, the fried mango prawn rolls. I had to break my strict diet plan and try 1 piece of it, cause it looked good. Somehow, I prefer it if they don’t cook it until it was so blazing hot. The mango was practically molten. Prawns were nice but not crunchy though.
