Kilkenny draft was great. A little bit of glistering taste like Heineken, which I like. As for Hoegaarden, which was my first time. It tasted like ginger ale without sugar and a tad sourish. HL said it’s the beer for ladies. I guess I’ll stick with Kilkenny, or Heineken if I want budget drink.

Oh, I almost forgot. I actually don’t fancy beers. So I don’t really drink.

It’s my first time trying the vegetarian steamed glutinous rice. It looks unappetizing and the rice was too soft and sticky. The only ingredient in it other than the glutinous rice was the vegetarian BBQ pork. Kuma was complaining about the lacking of chicken meat. The curry laksa was acceptable, but not the best I’ve had. Today’s cham peng was quite nice with nice creamy foam.

Homemade Dumpling

... as usual, I'll ask for both benta kaya and gula melaka for my homemade dumpling.

Rating: 4.5/10

I don’t have any appetite today, so I’ve only ordered homemade dumplings for lunch. My homemade dumplings came very late cause the waitress didn’t not place my order, despite I made it clear to her that I wanted both benta kaya and brown sugar as condiments. The taste was pretty much the same as the last time I had it.

After our heavy breakfast, we went hunting for dessert as according to the magazine. Boy, the place was hard to locate before it was not POI on my GPS map. Fortunately, we managed to find it by asking the local though.

While still quite full from the breakfast, I took on a whole bowl of ais kacang. The syrup used was rather exquisite. It was quite nice, though it was very sweet too. Be sure to drink a lot of water after that. EL was saying that, instead of normal sugar syrup, a kind of herbal syrup (八寶) was used. Worth a try as it was different from what I usually get, and it doesn’t come with the weird or bad after taste like those I had in KV. lol

When I was served my sizzling noodle, it doesn’t sizzle at all. The noodle was very soft, as if it was over soaked. The sauce on the noodle was nice though. As for the vegetarian popia that I ordered, it was rather unexpected. Reminded me of the sushi from Organic Vegetarian Fresh Mart. All the gratted vegetables as the centre of the roll.

After having asam laksa, we went for dessert. The famous cendol stall in Penang Road. There were 2 stalls opposite to each other, but the stall was basically swatting flies busy. I’ve had this many years ago. It seems, the taste doesn’t change much, if I recalled correctly. The lacked of fragrance from the brown sugar made this cendol rather Plain Jane. Give me Nancy’s Kitchen‘s cendol anytime, or even PappaRich‘s will do.

Had the porridge set, which comes with a porridge and Chinese crullers for only RM3.90. Then I order an extra mix bun as I’m a sucker for that. The porridge was really runny, no wonder I got hungry so soon. The crullers were still quite crispy even they’ve been on the shelf for a while. Though they were really really oily. The mix bun was a disappointment. I was expecting the glutinous rice to be harder and sweeter, instead this was very soft and almost like sticky flour, which I don’t like.

The cup of ABC was full of essence, most of them was from beetroot. The thick soil taste beetroot. Anyway, it wasn’t that bad at all. Still acceptable. My Mushroom Straganoff was rather surprising as I’ve got no ides what it was. I was expecting probably some rice cooked with mushrooms. Turns out it was served on a lasagna bowl with some flat noodle sunken at the bottom of the bowl. The sauce was quite nice and oyster mushrooms were used as main ingredients.

Unfortunately, there were come tempe in it. There was 1 item on the menu which was the potato tempe. I guess it was potato tempe in my food, which doesn’t taste very much better than its soya bean tempe counterpart.

My meal was so healthy today that I can shout “strict diet” at EL again. :D

On a side note, the shop wasn’t certified Halal, but its meat supplier was Halal certified.

The ais kacang I had tasted pretty much the same as those you can find outside. Maybe I wasn’t good enough in distinguishing the differences in the ingredient used, especially the milk. I’d say it tasted rather good though the shaved ice wasn’t fine enough. My fried kuey teow was more like fried hor fun (flat noodle) instead. Those flat noodle used in wat tan hor (滑蛋河). Anyway, despite being vegetarian, I’ve had worse non-vegetarian fried kuey teow before. So there isn’t really much to complain about for a healthier counterpart.

I had a taste of ALGJ’s vegetarian BBQ pork. It tasted the same as the kind of vegetarian BBQ pork I had the first time. I figure the vegetarian food don’t evolve much but rather got innovative over time. The seaweed soup was quite nice with sourish soup base. Though it was a tad too salty. Finally, the milk butter prawns that I ordered out of curiosity. It tasted quite nice, thought not exactly the same, but the artificial prawns had quite similar texture as the real deal. The outer layer was probably coated in crushed peanuts. Pretty cool.

I was pretty amazed with all the innovative vegetarian dishes nowadays. Unlike back in the olden days, there were only vegetarian BBQ pork and vegetarian roasted goose to satisfy the cravings for meat.
