The last time we came here, the place was sold out. This time we were here a lot earlier. It was DL’s 3rd attempt though, after 2 failures.

While waiting for DL to park his car and order for food, these are the eye candies from the place.

... Old Master Q (老夫子) as mural for the washrooms. Classic!

... wine rack? Not really, but rather empty bottles.

... instead of leaving business cards, they keep umbrellas.

Now, the good stuff begins…

... zhup fan? This was nice, the taste was just right.

... pot of gold, basically formed with seafood of various species.

... I call this the mommy's fried egg.

... finally, a dish which the place was meant for, BBQ grilled lamb.

... it looked like a slice from a roasted duck.

... the leftover soup from pot of seafood was turned into a vegetable mushrooms soup.

And all good stuffs come at a price…

... the original chilli pan mee in KL.

The original is still unmatched, albeit it was really spicy. I had only 2 scoops. Should have gone with only 1.

Finally, I found a my favourite coffee place, which I can hangout during weekends. Though it’s not too near, but it was convenient, with plenty of parking space. Most importantly, the place is cozy and it has free Wifi Internet access.

... 4 different flavours of pork sausages.

... mixed pork platter.

Rating: 6/10

There were 4 flavoured sausages on that grilled sausage plater. They were quite nice cause they don’t have that kind of pungent smell from other pork sausages that I had. As for the mixed platter, the pork belly was acceptable cause the fats were not to thick. My piece of pork rib was easy to manage cause the meat fall off the rib bone easily, while EL’s piece was very stubborn though.

Aside learning that there’s actually belacan style baby lettuce, now I realised that baby lettuce can be cooked in Sze Chuan style. It not surprising to find this out if it’s coming from Long Grilled Fish Seafood, because this place is known to have variety of choices on, or off their menu. Unfortunately, as I had high hopes on this Sze Chuan style vege, it turns out the belacan style was still better. Perhaps Sze Chuan style just wasn’t suited for me that much, but it was still good though.

As for the fried little squids, I need not say much. Just read from here:

We were introduced this charcoal bean curd. The lady call it the “醜樣豆腐” (ugly bean curd). Aside from the appearance, it tasted pretty much the same, if not exactly the same as ordinary bean curd. The style was pretty normal, tasted quite nice though. The clam soup was our first try. Nothing much to praise about it. I guess Lala Chong’s name is not there for show.

The crabs were exceptionally good. Aside from the giant size, they were quite fresh and the meat don’t stick to the shell as you pull it out. The soup underneath has some wine taste to it, which actually tasted not bad. Though I’d prefer crabs with more crab roe in it. Our dinner ended with the mangoes that we bought earlier. Though some were sweet, some were seriously sour. What a good way to keep the appetite running.

Overall, our dinner was a satisfactory one. I wished this restaurant would move into PJ area instead of so far from where I stay.

... steamed nuts, not as sweet and juicy as Tai Thong's nuts.

... sweet and sour fish fillet rice.

... Kung Pao Chicken Rice.

... the bill. Seems like the steamed nuts were free of charge.

First time patronising this restaurant. Our set cost us only RM9/pax. Apparently, the steamed peanuts were complimentary. The taste were mediocre, but for such cheap price, you have a plate of rice with 2 types of vegetables and 1 meat as main course. Then you have a choice of hot or cold Chinese tea, bottomless. It’s really no complain if you are looking for a budget meal.

The sweet & sour sauce on fish fillet was acceptable, but the fish fillet was rather foul. I guess the fish was not as fresh as it could be. As for the Kung Pow chicken, it was nothing Kung Pow at all. Avoid the Kung Pow chicken set at all cost.

In the end, you’ll end up with a rather farty lunch.

... char cheong noodle.

... fish slice noodle soup.

... dumplings.

Rating: 4/10

First time having lunch here. Last time I came here was having breakfast and I tried the various flavours of the dumplings there. Today, I had something more filling. I ordered the char cheong noodle, which looks delicious, yet it wasn’t. The fish slice noodle was not bad though. Dumplings were nothing to shout about.

A place I’ll reserve when I ran out of stuff to eat and in desperate moment.

... frankly speaking, I was in a dilemma to rate this nasi lemak.

Rating: 5.5/10

At first, we were heading to Bamboo Cafe. Before we reach our destination, there were many newly opened eateries in the area. So we stopped by 1 of them. Ria Cafe was similar to most kopitiam from the outside. I guess the menu was quite the same as well, where you can get your coffee and toasts. PCL had the Penang Fried Kuey Teow set, which I had my eyes on. Hence I went with the nasi lemak set instead. Our sets cost us RM10 each, which came with a drink, a soup, main course and dessert (fruits).

The nasi lemak, the rice was yellowish. Reminds me of Hainanese chicken rice. Not quite lemak as I expect. Somehow, the sambal was quite nice. The anchovies were fried till crispy. Probably 1 of the most crispy one I’ve had. PCL can’t stop picking on them, discretely, yet quite obvious. Though I didn’t finish up all the anchovies, as nasi lemak always remind me of my strict diet. Something which I’ve failed to observe over the time…

Today, ALGJ and me had breakfast with MSF. MSF said she needed to go to nearby office for meeting so I recommended having breakfast in Glenmarie. We ordered 4 types of dumplings as I don’t want to have a heavy breakfast. Firstly, the fried dumpling hasn’t much mushrooms in it. The vege dumplings were plainly meaty as well. Then the prawn dumplings weren’t just plain prawns. Then the meat dumplings were… pretty meaty. I was expecting crunchy prawns meat in the prawn dumplings, but I was wrong. I guess I shouldn’t expect much from cheap food such as these.

... Snowflakes bestseller comes with grass jelly and taro balls.

... after pouring in the creamer.

Rating: 7/10

This is my 5th time visiting this place, but only this time I brought along my camera. The first time I came was brought by AC. He recommended me the taro balls (yam flavoured glutinous rice ball). He likes the chewy texture of it. So far, I’ve tried the Snowflake Bestseller, Soya ice set and Taro ball set. Soya ice set comes with shaved ice made with soya bean, while Taro ball set was soaked in sugar syrup, very sweet.

Anyway, I preferred best seller because it has the combinations of the 3 sets, which is grass jelly, taro balls and soya bean based ice. Then it was simmered with grass jelly syrup, which has herbs flavour in it. I preferred the grass jelly syrup cause it’s not too sweet.

EDIT: AT said the best seller is not soya based ice. So I guess it’s only combination of 2 sets.
