I’ve missed quite a number of lunches because I have fallen sick. I lost the appetite on food or photographing them. As I’ve missed the shots from Daorae a couple of days ago. While most of the time I’d be having just bread.

I guess my taste bud haven’t fully recovered yet. The chicken tasted mediocre. The soup given was bland. Fortunate enough, the soup soaking the chicken in the pan was salty enough. I had a lot of that mixed with my rice.

WWS told me about this restaurant last Thursday. I was telling her that we would come here for lunch on the next day. Unfortunately, most of them can’t make it. Today we came here instead but without WWS because she was MIA. Upon reaching there, the door was locked, sort of. You need to press on the little button to electronically slides the door open or close. Pretty fancy. The lady boss explained to us how they are related to Rakuzen, which is located just next door. We went upstairs for our seats and the place looked nice.

Upon opening the menu, the stuff were rather pricey. The menu was unattractive and boring. There weren’t any photos on it. So if you are not familiar with Japanese food, get someone who does to guide you along. My unagi bento set was nice, at least the rice bowl was square, unlike that of Sushi Zanmai where the picture in the menu showed it as square but I was served with a round bowl and the unagi was barely covering the rice. In the end, we’ve got quite some leftovers from each of them because the portions are quite big for the girls. I could finish my unagi don though, fortunate enough, but I was being stuffed again to finish their leftovers.

After having glutinous rice flour, we went for cycling before going to Taipan Triangle for dinner. I’ve always wanted to give this place a try but I had problem finding it while driving my car.

The condiment wasn’t as good as expected. It’s actually belacan style chili. I preferred dried curry chili (咖哩油) type of condiment. They have better fragrance and more suitable for noodle such as what we had, in my own opinion. The kopi-o float was disappointing as the coffee was not sweet enough, despite it looked good. My dried curry was terrifying, though there were quite a few pieces of curry chicken meat in it. I didn’t managed to finish it because it wasn’t appetizing. Aside from I was still full from the 2 bowls of glutinous rice flour. I guess I won’t be coming here for a second round unless I had nothing else to eat in Taipan.

It’s my first time having glutinous rice flour (湯圓) in red bean soup. It actually tasted kinda nice as the fragrance from the red bean soup was nice. It wasn’t sweet enough though because AT separate the sugar water from the red bean soup itself. As for the ginger soup, it was spicy enough and the yellowish tint was caused by the brown sugar. The glutinous rice flour balls, most of them were sesame. I was lucky enough to get 1 stuffed with red bean. There wasn’t any peanut filling though.

The 5 of us went for a post movie dinner at Sushi Zanmai, after running out of ideas what to eat. It wasn’t exactly my preferred choice as I don’t fancy Sushi Zanmai, but HL insisted on having it and he’s been praising on how GREAT it was.

The recommended caviar was salty, very salty. HL said he wanted something even more salty. What’s with his tongue? My set of sushi was acceptable, except that the salmon mentai was a little unappetizing. My unagi don was overpriced, but that’s the kind of price you should be expecting from a premium restaurant like this. The soft shell crab, as usual, my money still on Don Sushi’s soft shell crab temaki. Unfortunately, the only outlet in SJ area in Carrefour has closed down. As for HL & GY’s soft shell crab temaki, it looked different from the picture on the menu. I wonder if we can sue them for misleading photos? The menu was very deceiving as most of the items we ordered appeared differently from its pictures. Unlike Senjyu Sushi where what you see is what you get, at least most of the time.

Today I’m celebrating a farewell with DL for a friend who’s about to leave for Singapore for her job. Initially we were to go Serdang for huge ass crab, but they ran out of crabs. This place was recommended by DL as alternative, which is nearby to his place.

The soup prawn clay pot with cellophane noodles (冬粉) was kinda special. It has some Chinese liquor in it and it tasted weird to me. I guess it’s an acquired taste. The soup was pepper based, which means it’s spicy. It looked like curry because of the roe from the big prawns. There were 3 prawns in it, 1 for each of us. The crabs was nicely cooked and the pincers were big. My favourite would be the meat and roe filled crab shell. Oh heavenly!

There were plenty of food including a turkey. Plenty of pizzas from Pizza Hut and some local delicacies such as fried noodle and vermicelli. I didn’t managed to have a taste on those cakes as I was busy playing with my colleague’s D300. They were so pretty, but I doubt they would be nice to eat. The drink was made by Kuma. I heard it’s a cocktail (alcohol free) mix of her own recipe. I only had a few sips and then I’ve forgotten about my drink, because I was busy with the D300 camera. Not sure if the rest of them went to the toilet after having that concoction.

I’ve got something to discuss with my colleague, so we came to a quiet place which is not too far away from office. Unfortunately, there aren’t many selections of choice on the menu.

The egg sandwich seemed to have shrunk. Funnily, the bread was like a love shape. I joked about it that the boss liked her for giving her the love shaped bread. As for my American breakfast, it wasn’t really that nice. She left me part of her sandwich, hence I couldn’t finish all my bread.

Hiro Cake

Posted: 2008-12-18 by W in 3.0 - 3.9, Eat, Halal, Non-vegetarian, Snack

The other night after my dinner, I went to MK Snack to buy some junk food. I found Hiro cake hidden on 1 of the shelves. Unfortunately, it came in a box of 24 pieces. Since I never had them for sooooo long, I guess I’ll just buy a lot of them to fill up my craving holes that formed over the years.

I was really happy that I found it. I still remember the taste very clearly the first time I had it. And the 2nd time I had it, it tasted the same as well, but that was so many years ago. I was around 13-year old back then and I’ve only had 2 my whole life. Now we have reunited, but things got bitter over the time. Rather than the sweet chocolate taste with soft and tender cake underneath, the chocolate now tasted really sweet, but aside from that, salty as well. Weird indeed, but I just couldn’t accept it. The cake was acceptable, a bit sweetened. Just that the salted taste really put me off. I lost my appetite after the 1st piece. There were 23 more to go… *gulp*

Me and another 3 colleagues, ALGJ, LG and TSL came to Well Cook Gourmet for lunch. When we were there, I met other colleagues and SAP consultants there as well. Funny thing was, another group of colleagues and SAP consultant went to the same place again. I guess the place was raided by the people from my company.

The 2 out of the 3 ladies were having problem with their order. ALGJ made her choice really early and I ordered asam laksa as I saw it on the menu. While I recommended the nasi goreng kampung and fried laksa to both LG and TSL respectively. The tomyam beehoon was quite nice, except that, I don’t really like the whole pot having only beehoon. The asam laksa was a tad too sweet and they deprived me of the yellow noodle. As for both nasi goreng kampung and fried laksa, I’ve had them before on my previous 2 visits.

Overall, the lunch was very full because I was being stuffed with the leftovers from their unfinished food. A piece of advice, never order complete portions if you have ladies with you, 3 of them should’ve only had the portions of 2 pax.
